Videos- 2 ads – and what do you think of them?

19 March 2009 2 Comments

Ok- here is a quick one- since most of the readers are interested in advertising and its impact on businesses, here is something to chew on.

Like most video posts I allow you to give your take on what you think of the video first.  Ditto for this post. I have seen some opinions on Fred’s site (That’s where I saw the ads first) and I guess Rob’s site (That’s from where I followed the link if I am not wrong)- but DON’t visit before giving your opinions- because I don’t want you to get biased.

Hello? I know you just clicked and visited the site. You naughty you.

Wonders what stopping someone can make them do.

But I shared the links at this stage because both Fred and Rob have excellent blogs for those following advertising industry. What keeps me amused is the tone of the blogs. They really are “blogs”- very opinionated and speaking their minds- of ads, people, processes and state of affairs in advertising.

Anyways- now that you are probably biased with the comments on their sites – try shrugging off your mind from your comments and tell me what you REALLY think of these ads.  :

The first one is for Johnnie Walker (I know many of you like the new Heineken ad – the one with what to find in Women’s closets and Men’s closets- by the looks of people sharing the ad over the net. But this one is different. And expensive.)

The second one is for Audi.

I want just an opinion of what did you think when you first saw the ad. Repeat viewing not allowed at this stage. Just your first thoughts on what was the ad trying to convey and any other comment on top of that.

Come on- every one has an opinion on ads, opposite sex, soccer and politics. (okay you can cancel soccer)

    Dude
To me- Both the ads are good. Production wise- excellent production value and use of special effects.
One is ‘attitude’- with having the power to choose- though at some level- is it trying to say that which path you choose does not matter- it is HOW you choose it (the vehicle) that matters? I mean if you do not have the closing line, it might be ambiguos.

On the other hand- the Audi one has a light touch.I like the scene where the character opens the rear view. Too cool.It looks like they are saying- look what we made out of an ordinary box.

The Audi one’s a little bold I’ll say. Is your car made out of cardboard or what? All I could think of was how innovatively and smoothly they animated it, and the transition from cardboard to actual car was cool too. But message-wise if you wanna squeeze something positive out…… well I suppose you can say Audi works out of the box. Or that it’s green. This obviously isn’t going very well haha.

The JW one is much deeper. Very typical of their ads, and nothing wrong too. They aren’t appealing to everyone on the street after all. To be brutally honest – doesn’t matter if 80% of their intended market don’t understand the meaning behind the ad. Because they don’t get it, they will simplify it as “ooh JW for sophisticated people who make conscious choices”, and who’d rather be a simple character floating where the waves go? JW scores.
