Hi David, I checked out @zhiq;s list. Bookmarked it long time back :) Good initiative- looking for more stuff on how digital media is shaping up in Malaysia.
Terence- yes sure many MPs all across the world are using the new media. Hope they continue to do so- and not just play around with it, don't see immediate results, and drop it.
Raj- couldn't agree more.
The example of Mr George Yeo was taken because I was there in the event- with a nomination and happened to experience this first hand.

All great examples and definitely agree that they are at least worth trying. I haven't done the work to analyse this yet, but having MM Lee as someone you can follow on Twitter who tweets at least once in 10 days is not bad for someone who is the "Father of Singapore" and also a critical image of Singapore. He is globally respected and is a citizen of the world, and this speaks loads for the "marketing" of Singapore. I believe there was a recent article in the local papers, like Terence mentions, about MPs experimenting with social media as a means of connecting with citizens - again, a way of social media marketing without using the terminology.

I'm sure there are loads more examples and I do believe there must be discussions about the ROI of such initiatives.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lim_Hwee_Hua (a Cabinet Minister) is active on Facebook.
And a number of PAP MPs too.

The PAP is trying to exert some influence in social media. The only problem is social media connects people of similar backgrounds, so its like preaching to the converted.

The real problem for social media in Singapore is preaching to the unconverted, which takes alot more effort that what has been achieved to date.

Good list. I agree with what you say, it's important to at least try. It takes a few stumbles before you can know how to use social media effectively, and more importantly - develop that social media mindset.

P.S. Check out @zhiQ's list of Malaysian social media initiatives (slightly out of date thought) - http://www.greyreview.com/social-media-malaysia/
