Hey John

Was hoping to get a few more conversations on this topic.

Anyhow- here's my take- as I mentioned- this post is not prognosticating apocalypse- rather addressing some happenings around the world that have a impacting effect on everyone's lives.

The Schumacher comet was predicting end of days - even the Y2K bug was supposed to have caused irreversible impact on the planet- and though it is always easier to laugh at these in the hindsight, I refrained from using such topics of 'live or die' impact.

Rather the post focused on more 'human' issues- that might unfold their impact in the longer term but have their roots in the present and recent past.

So the issues in this post were Global Security (I hoped someone would raise the issue of "why the smaller countries becoming nuclear armed are being viewed as a threat"), Health and Human Sensitivity- with a backdrop of the world becoming smaller place.

In the next post, I attempt to feature other factors including the impact of global economics and how it will change government policies and lifestyles in the future.

Having said that- I agree that the headline is a bit of a link bait (and it did succeed in eliciting a first comment from you :p)

Hey Shalabh - I grew up watching videos from the 60s of kids having to crouch under their desks for a nuclear strike and the doomsday clock at 11.57 in 1984. AIDs was going to end the world, Carlos the Jackal/Libya was hijacking planes and boats for fun, China was going to have to invade the world because of the need for food/oil/McDonalds etc and the Shoemaker comet was going to hit the earth in 1992.

Guess what I'm saying is that I've never felt safer (even couldn't understand the fear after 9/11), people actually caring about our impact on the earth for the first time and (despite junk food) are living longer than ever. It's a great time to be alive!
