Do bloggers take a Sunday Break?

15 December 2008 Comments

Attended the Social Media Breakfast event on Saturday- 13th Dec. Late. But worth writing about it anyways. Better late and all that jazz.

It was my first time at the SMB- these kind of events seem to be one of those undercurrents in the marketing belly of Singapore. And they seem to be growing by every event of this kind that I attend.

I noticed on the facebook group- there being some 77 odd confirmations- in an event that promised to have the who’s who of the social media glitterati. Lets see what happens.

So it was more of a brunch than a breakfast- and got to meet up with many guys- some were part of the same old bunch- and some new guys.

Since it was a networking event of sorts- I’ll mention some people that I met up with. Gives a fair idea I guess.

I think I was amongst the senior citizens in the event- what with majority seeming to be about 25 or thereabouts. One of them looked like 13 years old (she was not though- she was a ripe old 22). Does that speak anything about the blogging scene in Singapore?

I have met 2 of the 3 organizers earlier :

Derrick Kwa : Young guy. He blogs on letting your true colors shine. Quite heartening to see young chaps not only having a voice online- but even involved in organizing such events.

Claudia: Camera happy. Took photos of me with my unique Google IPod. And referred to me as “‘he’ has got a Google Ipod” in her blog. Quite non-descript. But well “my name quite forgetful loh!” As they say in Singlish.

Met up again with Preetam, Jonathan and Daniel. Daniel actually helped sponsor the event with space and food at Samsung store VivoCity- courtsey- www.samsunghope.org- a non-profit that helps/enables charities. Quite a good concept and a great short presentation. Apart from the message worth mentioning and promoting, it was a good exercise in Corporate Social responsibility. Good stuff mate!

Also met up with some new guys:

Damien: I like blogs on tech hacks. Help a lot when I am lost and feel like banging my head on the computer screen. Damien edits one of these blogs.

Vincent Tan: He edits PolymathProgrammer- a blog on coding and mathematics and all those things that normal people are scared of. He is pretty normal though. Except that he codes from both sides of his brain! Just leg pulling- in case you are interested in geeky stuff- check him out.

Nicholas Khoo: He blogs on technology and internet. Also writes for CNet.

That’s it. By the time I linked, I realized I was not as late probably- saw a couple of bloggers just posting their stuff today.

Makes me wonder. Do bloggers have Sunday off?
